When it Rains on SXM : Tour the Distilleries

There are so many things to do on the island besides going to the gorgeous beaches, especially when windy and wet. Take a short break and head to the places that show one where the popular rums of the Caribbean come from. The spirit, first distilled on the islands during the 17th century, is a by-product from the sugar industry. The molasses, that came through the refining process, was found to become an excellent drink, once fermented. Caribbean rum producers have spent the centuries perfecting the process of distillation, aging and blending. Topper’s Rhum has taken this process to the next level.

For the second time in quick succession Topper’s Rhum has scored a win.
One can take a tour of the facilities and enjoy tastes of the many rums made on property. This fun tour in the 6,000-square-foot facility offers an insight into the history of rum-making. One does not only get to watch and listen to the information about the blending and bottling process but can get a little “hands on” experience in the process too.
Then there is the fun part of sampling many new flavours that they are developing as well as sampling some of the most popular rums they produce.
