Hospital strike: action suspended

All departments at the Louis Constant Fleming Hospital took part in a strike from Friday 5 to Monday 8 June. Among the grievances were “staff suffering”, “a lack of human and material resources” and “a lack of leadership”.

On Friday 5 June, staff at Saint-Martin Hospital began negotiations with the acting director. On Monday 8 June, he sent them a written summary of their discussions. “We have decided to suspend the strike until further notice, to allow time to analyse the document sent to us and to enable genuine negotiations,” said Mylène Linon, representative of the CGT in Guadeloupe (CGTG).  Although the placards remain firmly displayed outside the hospital, the healthcare workers have returned to their posts. The acting director is due to visit Saint-Martin early next week, and the hospital staff are “waiting for him with bated breath”. In the absence of a response to the healthcare workers’ demands, the CGTG has announced that the strike could resume “at any moment”.
