Cervical cancer: Green June highlights the importance of screening

To mark Green June, the national awareness month for cervical cancer screening, the Regional Cancer Screening Coordination Centre (CRCDC) for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy is launching a new awareness campaign. ‬A public information campaign aimed at breaking down taboos and encouraging screening‭.‬

There are now various ways to protect yourself against cervical cancer. Firstly, there is the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine (recommended for those aged 11 to 26), and secondly, regular screening. To be screened, women aged 25 to 29 must undergo a cervical smear test, and those aged 30 to 65, a high-risk HPV test. According to the CRDC Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy, screening remains insufficient in the region, with an overall participation rate of 26.4% among women, compared to 45.1% nationally. In light of this, the CRCDC aims to improve public awareness and change perceptions of screening. Far from using fear-mongering or guilt-inducing language, the 2026 campaign adopts a more inclusive and supportive approach. Screening is presented not only as a preventive measure, but also as a way of looking after oneself. Through Green June, the CRCDC reminds us that prevention and screening can save lives.
