All departments at the Louis Constant Fleming Hospital are taking part in the strike that began on Friday 5 June. Healthcare workers are highlighting a “staff crisis”, “a lack of human and material resources” and “a lack of leadership”.
Despite the start of negotiations with the acting director on 5 June, staff at the Saint-Martin hospital say they have still not received any concrete answers. “We are waiting for written answers; we are fed up with promises,” says Mylène Linon, representative of the CGT in Guadeloupe, before adding,
“This hospital is a graveyard; we are burying the staff.” Still gathered outside the hospital, the staff insist they will not end the action until all their demands have been addressed. However, a minimum service is still being provided by healthcare workers to ensure patients are cared for. In the absence of responses deemed satisfactory, the strike could continue in the coming days.
