The recycling centre: what you need to know
The Galisbay waste collection centre is run by the Collectivité de Saint-Martin. It is open exclusively to private individuals living in Saint-Martin, and access is free of charge. They can dispose of six categories of waste there: green waste, bulky items, recyclables (wood, metal, glass, cardboard), hazardous waste (paint, oil, batteries), electronic equipment (WEEE) and inert waste (rubble). The waste is then sent to the Grandes Cayes landfill site or to the Ecosite for recycling.
For businesses, the rules are different.
Legally responsible for their waste, they must arrange for its disposal at their own expense and contact the Grandes Cayes Ecosite, managed by Verde Sxm, where access is subject to mandatory weighing and waste inspection. Any error in declaration will result in a tariff adjustment.
Voluntary drop-off points
More than a hundred voluntary drop-off points complete the system. Spread across the region, they accept household packaging — glass, cardboard, newspapers, cans, plastic bottles — under a contract with the eco-organisation EcoEmballages.
