Besftlife2030: Galisbay’s award-winning project
The BESTLIFE2030 programme, funded by the European Union with the support of the French Biodiversity Agency, supports practical projects aimed at preserving and restoring biodiversity in European overseas territories. The Collectivité of Saint-Martin has been selected for the project ‘Étang de Galisbay: towards a model of urban ecology in Saint-Martin’. It aims to improve the ecological condition of the pond whilst strengthening its role in residents’ daily lives. Activities include, in particular, ecological restoration work, the creation of promenades, a walking trail, wildlife observation points and the installation of educational panels. The Nature Is The Key association will also be involved through workshops open to the general public. The first initiatives are scheduled to begin by the end of the month.
