Interreg Caribbean: promoting cooperation between Saint Martin and Sint Maarten
The European INTERREG Caribbean programme aims to foster cooperation between the outermost regions (Saint Martin, Guadeloupe, Martinique and French Guiana) and their neighbouring territories.
Priority 5 of the programme is entirely dedicated to cooperation between Saint-Martin and Sint Maarten. It was within this framework that the Territorial Strategy for Cross-Border Cooperation was signed between the Collectivité of Saint-Martin, the Prefecture of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin, and the government of Sint Maarten on 18 December 2025. To implement this strategy, three calls for projects aimed at strengthening cooperation through the improvement of Simpson Bay Lagoon were launched on 5 May: environmental and socio-economic studies to improve knowledge of Simpson Bay Lagoon (planned European funding: €350,000, maximum aid rate: 85%), cleaning of Simpson Bay Lagoon (planned European funding: €1.5 million, maximum grant rate: 85%) and the creation of a joint management plan for the lagoon (planned funding: €100,000, maximum grant rate: 85%). These calls for projects are open to government departments, public institutions, public and private agencies, businesses, NGOs, associations, etc., provided that they are led by at least two organisations: one based in Saint Martin and the other in Sint Maarten. Applications are open until 1 July 2026. Information: https://europe-a-saint-martin.eu/
