A solution to the problem of isolation?

Par Ann Bouard
28 April 2026

On 15 April, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs presented a bill authorising the ratification of the agreement signed between France and Antigua and Barbuda on air services.

The agreement was initialled in St John’s on 28 March 2022. This bilateral agreement aims to “restore direct flights that have been suspended since 2019 and improve regional connectivity for French communities”. In addition to resuming flights between France and Antigua and Barbuda, which have been suspended since 2019, it also aims to open new routes and strengthen regional connectivity in the Caribbean… a new air route could therefore open up for Saint Martin. This project comes at a tense time, following the liquidation of Air Antilles, and coincides with the announced resumption of the route between Antigua and Guadeloupe by LIAT from 1 May. The bill has yet to be examined by Parliament.
