A car park in Grand Case
The first slab for the car park at the Savane – Grand Case sports complex was symbolically laid on 25 August by Bernadette Davis, 2nd Vice-President of the Collectivité in charge of the Quality of Life Department, and Fabrice Thibier, sub-prefect and Secretary-General of the Prefecture.
Work is therefore continuing in this area of Grand Case. The refurbishment of the sports ground, costing €333,000, is now complete, apart from the connection of the toilet facilities. The site has notably been fitted with new basketball hoops, the courts have been repainted, lighting has been installed and street workout equipment has been put in place. It is now the turn of the adjacent site, which serves the post office, Happy School and the sports ground, to be converted into a car park. The project provides for 49 parking spaces, one disabled parking space near the Post Office, one space for school buses and, finally, two spaces – under a temporary occupation permit (AOT) and connected to the electricity supply – for food trucks. The parking spaces will be constructed using hollow-core slabs to ensure maximum permeability. The site is in fact situated on reclaimed land… the space having been reclaimed from the pond. Pavements will provide access to the car park, lighting will be installed, and road markings and signs should ensure safe entry and exit for vehicles. The works, costing €1,068,700, are jointly funded by the Collectivité de Saint-Martin and the State under the Convergence and Transformation Contract (CCT). The EEASM has already carried out the connections for the future pumping station, whose pipelines pass through this location. Work can therefore begin. It will require one month of preparatory work (earthworks) and five months of construction. It is therefore hoped that the car park will be completed by February 2027.
