Social and professional reintegration through activity
Twelve women took part in a textile workshop organised by the Compagnons Bâtisseurs. A week to master the basics of sewing, with some having never used a sewing machine before, and, above all, to learn how to recycle all kinds of textiles. An intensive week that culminated in these women receiving a micro-certificate.
The micro-certification scheme, run by the Compagnons Bâtisseurs third-place centre in Quartier d’Orléans, forms part of a programme aimed at professional and social reintegration. Knowledge of materials, theory and practical application, design, finishing touches and even a few basics of fashion design… over seven days, working in pairs, they underwent a crash course. A condensed version of a CAP in dressmaking, so to speak. This micro-certification now allows them to add another string to their bow and, above all, a new skill to their CV. Last Tuesday, they presented their creations and, let’s face it, they were rather successful – and the skills have certainly been acquired! Jeans with the seams removed were transformed into handbags or reversible sun hats, whilst re-cut dresses gave rise to colourful little outfits for children… All these creations have also helped them realise the importance of reducing waste and recycling as much as possible. They received their micro-certification, a digital CV, which they’ll be able to present when applying for jobs in the professional sector or in social work. These skills will also help them get started and, for some, perhaps build a future in dressmaking and fashion. A workshop that’s already sparking ideas… A textile recycling centre could soon be set up, alongside an incubator designed to support all those who have realised they could develop a business in this field, helping them to see their projects through to completion. When this centre is established, ten jobs will be available.
