Recruitment for the Gendarmerie Cadets is now open
The National Gendarmerie and the Association of Gendarmerie Cadets of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin are launching the recruitment campaign for cadets, Class of 2026.
Aimed at young people aged 16 to 18 living in Saint-Barthélemy or Saint-Martin, this programme offers an insight into the work of the National Gendarmerie, as well as government services more broadly. It also aims to foster a sense of civic responsibility and enable young people to make a practical contribution to the public good. Throughout the programme, cadets will take part in sessions focusing on training, team-building and discovery: republican values, everyday safety, the duty to remember, civic engagement, the workings of gendarmerie units, and an introduction to institutions such as the Prefecture, the Territorial Police, the Border Police, Customs and the Courts.
Twelve places are available and applications are open until 31 August. A selection process may be organised to assess candidates’ motivation and their suitability for the programme. The programme will run from 10 October 2026 to 14 July 2027, with one day per month: Saturdays during term time and one weekday during the holidays. Applications should be submitted by email (lescadetsgendarmeriesbsm@gmail.com) or via the platform https://www.jeveuxaider.gouv.fr/ (under the ‘volunteering, dissertations and citizenship’ tab, ‘Comgend988 volunteering’).
