Patrick Lambruschini, a veteran of overseas postings, has been appointed head of the hospital
Although the National Management Centre (CNG) had already formalised his appointment, the official announcement of the arrival of a director at the Louis-Constant Fleming Hospital was made last Friday at a press conference, by Philippe Luccioni-Michaux, Director-General of the Regional Health Agency for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy. Patrick Lambruschini will take up his post on 15 July, bringing to an end six months of interim leadership.
During his first visit to the territory last April, Philippe Luccioni-Michaux had stated that he would make stabilising the management of the Louis Constant Fleming Hospital a priority and would give himself one month to gather applications and select the person best suited to the post. The job vacancy was published shortly afterwards, and the CNG’s directors’ management department received 14 applications. Of the five candidates shortlisted by the chair of the hospital’s supervisory board, the Collectivité and the ARS, Patrick Lambruschini was selected.
This choice was motivated by his professional background, having previously managed hospitals and being particularly well-versed in the challenges faced in overseas territories. A graduate of the École des hautes études en santé publique and originally from Finistère, he began his career as an executive assistant at the French Red Cross. In 2002, he took over as director of the Kourou Medical and Surgical Centre in French Guiana, before working at Cayenne General Hospital from 2003 to 2006. He then joined the Pointe-à-Pitre University Hospital, where he remained for six years. On his return to mainland France in 2012, he became involved in the medical and social sector, heading the Caisse d’Épargne Foundation from 2014 to 2017, before returning to the overseas territories to Wallis and-Futuna, where he served for three years as deputy director of the territory’s health agency. As Chief Executive of the Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon Hospital since January 2020 – a hospital that had been without leadership for nearly a year – Patrick Lambruschini’s remit will be to modernise the hospital in Saint-Martin, reorganise its departments and restore confidence, develop a more outpatient-based approach to healthcare, and establish partnerships and synergies – notably with the Wataki Clinic – in order to expand the range of care on offer and improve patient care. Prior to the announcement of his appointment, a memorandum of understanding had been signed between the acting director and the trade unions, paving the way for a return to smoother operations across the departments from 23 June… Watch this space.
