Louis-Constant Fleming Hospital regains its certification
Despite the recent turmoil at the hospital – between the orthopaedic surgeon affair and, more recently, the sanctions requested against the current director – progress nevertheless seems to have been made, thanks in particular to the commitment of all the staff. The establishment has thus regained its certification for the quality and safety of its care.
The certification process for healthcare establishments in France is carried out by the Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS). This independent procedure aims to assess the quality and safety of the care provided to patients. It is based on visits carried out by external expert visitors appointed by the HAS, who analyse the organisation of the establishment, the practices of the medical teams and the care provided to patients.
The Louis-Constant Fleming Hospital Centre lost its certification in 2014. A new HAS certification visit took place in 2023, but highlighted significant shortcomings in several areas of care quality and safety that required improvement: securing the medication circuit, particularly for high-risk medications; securing the management of life-threatening emergencies, securing the management of immediate postpartum haemorrhage, ensuring compliance with good practices relating to measures restricting freedom, working on patient information, continuing to implement differentiated reception for minors, developing practices assessment procedures, and strengthening the culture of quality and safety of care among professionals.
A new certification visit was therefore scheduled for 2025 to verify the implementation of corrective measures on these various points.
The certification commission of the Haute Autorité de Santé (French National Authority for Health) re-examined the Marigot Hospital's file at its meeting on 10 January and, in view of the progress made, granted the establishment certification.
