Meanwhile… in St Barth (press round-up)
Nothing earth-shattering, but some practical and useful information for residents of the sister island and for anyone interested in it.
First of all, the main piece of news everyone was expecting: Xavier Lédée, who has been President of the Territorial Council of Saint-Barthélemy since 2022, is seeking a second term. He has officially announced his candidacy for the territorial election on Sunday 14 March 2027. Heading the ‘Unis pour Saint-Barthélemy’ (UPSB) list, he has stated his intention to ensure the island’s future is characterised by continuity and responsibility. Outremers360
As every year, the bonds of friendship between Saint-Barthélemy and the Swedish town of Piteå will be celebrated at an event that has become a must-attend: Piteå Day. This commemoration between the two twin towns will be an opportunity to honour the cultural ties between Saint-Barthélemy and Sweden, and to bring to life this shared history which has lasted for nearly 50 years (since the towns were twinned), though in reality it goes back much further, as Sweden ceded Saint-Barthélemy to France in 1878. See you on 7 and 8 November.

Since 24 October, Saint-Barthélemy has been hosting a unique exhibition at the Wall House Museum. Until 6 November, visitors can explore the National Museum of the Patriarchate, conceived by the @enavanttoutes association and Artefact 3000. As well as the interactive, offbeat and cheerful exhibition, which reimagines the world with humour and emotion, the programme features shows, concerts and round-table discussions.

It’s not all good news, however, as the tourist season has not yet begun, yet problems with the electricity supply are already forcing the population to comply with restrictions and load-shedding measures set out according to a precise schedule. Residents are being asked to make an effort, in particular by reducing their use of air conditioning and energy-intensive appliances. Saint-Barthélemy Local Authority
As every year, the traditional and aptly named ‘Gustavialoppet’ will bring together runners and walkers on Sunday 8 November, starting at 6 am. Participants will have the choice between two routes of 5 or 10 km. Registration details are available at https://www.sport-timing-caraibes.com/ or at the Maison des Associations, Quai Rockefeller in Gustavia, on 4 and 5 November for walkers and until 6 November for runners. Everyone can therefore choose how they wish to take part in the event.
