On Friday 10 April, the inauguration ceremony for the Saint Martin Territorial Youth Council (CTJ) took place. A new generation of secondary school pupils, sixth-formers, students and young professionals will serve on the council for a two-year term.

Gathered in the chamber of the Hôtel de la Collectivité, the new members of the Territorial Youth Council proceeded to elect their president. The candidates were Rodny Arrondell-Mogin, Jahid Hamlet and Ethan Kouame Agoua. Comprising 23 members and 5 substitutes, the Council also includes four vice-presidents. Following speeches by the various candidates and a secret ballot, Jahid Hamlet, a pupil at Robert Weinum High School, came out on top with 17 votes. The vice-presidents for this eighth term are Mirline Dambreville, Dienicha Charles, Denzel Cocks and Will Williams.
Over the next two years, the members of the CTJ will learn how the territorial institution operates and will be able to champion projects close to their hearts. A task that the new president, aged just 16, does not take lightly: “I fully appreciate the responsibility entrusted to me (...) Now one thing matters: taking action. Turning our ideas into projects, our commitment into results. (...) Together, we will make the CTJ a force to be reckoned with.”
The Territorial Youth Council aims to encourage civic participation among the younger generations and to involve them in local social and political life. During their term of office, the elected representatives will be keen to get involved in official events, charitable initiatives, and sporting, cultural and environmental projects. A “true school of life”, as described by Maylie Auger Azur, vice-president during the previous term. Present at the inauguration of the new Council, she encouraged her successors: “Carry your commitment with pride and be exemplary.” This should motivate the CTJ 2026–2028, which will serve the youth of Saint Martin for the next two years.
