Local elections: voters are set to go to the polls on 14 March 2027
Voters in Saint Martin are due to go to the polls on Sunday 14 March 2027 to elect the 23 members of the Territorial Council. The date was officially confirmed by Decree No. 2026-913, published in the Official Journal on 1 October. If a second round is necessary, it will be held a week later, on Sunday 21 March.
The election is conducted using a list-based system: voters cast their votes for a complete list of candidates, without being able to add or remove names, or change the order in which they appear.
A total of 23 seats are to be allocated. The winning list is initially allocated 8 of these 23 seats. The remaining 15 seats are then allocated amongst the various lists according to the number of votes they have received. This system ensures a majority is established within the Territorial Council, whilst still allowing the other lists to be represented.
All voters registered on the electoral roll in Saint Martin are eligible to vote in this election, which will determine the composition of the Territorial Council for the next five years. For those who are not yet registered, now is the time to do so. Registration is open until the sixth Friday before the first round, i.e. before 5 February 2027.
Political parties and groups can now officially begin preparing their campaigns for this election.
