On Wednesday 8 July, ‬the Saint-Martin Magistrates’ Court tried a man for several burglaries committed between 25‭ ‬April and 2‭ ‬May 2026‭ ‬in Saint-Barthélemy‭. ‬A native of Saint Martin‭, ‬the defendant was a repeat offender and was sentenced to 24‭ ‬months’ imprisonment‭.‬

A car dealership, several restaurants, a building materials supplier and a private residence were the targets of a series of burglaries in Saint-Barthélemy. The perpetrator, who claimed to have come to the island “on holiday”, carried out a number of burglaries with the help of accomplices during April and May 2026. With their faces concealed, the perpetrators stole, in turn, the contents of safes, cash from till boxes, and 9mm ammunition. In the course of their crimes, they also caused considerable damage, breaking into certain premises or deliberately ransacking a private residence. In this flat, part of the property had been doused with grenadine syrup, whilst a designer belt and jewellery were stolen. Standing trial for these counts of aggravated theft, he was also charged with the unauthorised possession of a handgun and Category B ammunition. Having already been convicted on 9 January 2025 by the Basse-Terre Criminal Court for similar offences, he was deemed a repeat offender under the law. The defendant was therefore sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment, to be served without parole, and remains in custody.
