Tuesdays in Grand Case... let's go!

The 23rd edition of Mardis de Grand Case was officially launched last Tuesday, with much fanfare and drumming. The boulevard was packed, bringing together a crowd of residents and tourists who had turned out in large numbers for the occasion.

The MAS of Grand Case kicked off the festivities with a bang, before giving way, as is customary, to the official speeches and the traditional ribbon cutting. This year, the task fell to Marie-Hildegarde Chauveau, sub-prefect, who was also responsible for representing the Prefect. The President of the CCISM, due to the agricultural show, was represented by the President of FIPCOM-MEDEF, Michel Vogel, while Alain Richardson, 1st Vice-President, represented the Collectivité. However, it is worth noting the absence of representatives from the Tourist Office on the podium of this major attraction for the territory.

Treasures of all kinds

For Chantal Vernusse, director of Calypso Event, the event's organiser, every Tuesday should be a celebration of all the treasures of Grand Case and a showcase of Saint Martin's identity, whether in terms of its people, culture, art or gastronomy. Indeed, there are numerous stalls offering local and Caribbean specialities at this year's event, much to the delight of food lovers, alongside stalls selling all kinds of creative products. The stars seem to be aligned this year and Grand Case Tuesdays are well and truly here, despite the difficulties encountered, as Alain Richardson pointed out. He also assured the support of the Collectivité, even if the subsidies sometimes fall short of the organisers' expectations. But every year, the Tuesdays are progressing and becoming more professional. Independent lighting and enhanced security measures, well planned in partnership with the State and law enforcement agencies, as highlighted by Marie-Hildegarde Chauveau, contribute to their success. While all the event's partners were present – partners who contribute to the success and existence of this large popular market – the greatest thanks go to the residents of Grand Case. For 23 years, they have accepted the transformation of their neighbourhood for a few evenings, adapting their habits with a smile. They are, without question, the true treasures of Grand Case. So let's get ready for five more consecutive Tuesdays. See you every Tuesday until 31 March on the Grand Case boulevard, but also in our columns to discover the exhibitors and personalities who are also the soul of Grand Case Tuesdays.
