A real brain-teaser of a competition!
Almost fifty years after it was invented by the Hungarian Erno Rubik, the Rubik’s Cube is far from finished! Competitions are becoming increasingly popular and are springing up all over the world. For the first time, two brand-new events are scheduled to take place in Sint Maarten and Saint-Martin.
Those nostalgic for the 1980s have plenty to look forward to, but watch out – the younger generations aren’t to be outdone and absolutely love this little colourful cube, a real brain-teaser. The craze is such that there are clubs, societies and competitions all over the world. If you can solve a Rubik’s Cube in under 10 minutes and fancy joining the huge international community of ‘speedcubers’, then these competitions are for you! For the first time, Saint-Martin and Sint Maarten will be hosting official competitions, open to all ages and all levels. The first will take place on Saturday 1 August at the Daniella Jeffry vocational college in Marigot, and the second on Sunday 2 August at the Sundial School in Philipsburg. So there’s still a bit of time to practise and hone your speed and dexterity, as there will be several events – just as there are several types of Rubik’s Cube: the traditional 3x3 cube, the Megaminx, the Pyraminx… The event most dreaded by competitors will undoubtedly be the one-handed challenge. Registration is now open. For further information: cube.antilles@gmail.com or 06 90 33 64 23.
