Soualiga Secondary School opens its doors
The 550 pupils at Soualiga Secondary School returned to school on Monday. They are back in a brand-new school building.
After many years of waiting, La Savane Secondary School has finally opened its doors. With modern facilities and tree-lined courtyards, the pupils now have the best possible conditions in which to study. Gathered in front of the school, pupils and teaching staff were able to attend the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony. This symbolic gesture was performed jointly by Vice-Principal Harry Christophe, the school’s longest-serving teacher, Mr Coullet, and the youngest pupil in Year 7, Sanaa. “It’s a new adventure for all of us; we’re very happy,” she said. Mr Coullet, the technology teacher, highlighted the “comfort of the new premises” and the modern facilities that have been installed.
A new tool to support success
While, as Headteacher Benjamin Mora assures us, “Everything is ready”, the pupils received the school’s floor plans and their new timetables before the holidays. Now, all that remains is for them to settle into the new premises. “ “It was the right time to organise the start of the school year in this building,” emphasises Vice-Principal Harry-Christophe, before adding, “this allows us to test the facilities and see if any adjustments are needed.
These can then be carried out before the start of the school year in September 2026.” At a cost of €41 million, this secondary school is opening nine years after Hurricane Irma struck.
