On the way to lessons…
Following on from National Education staff and teachers, it is now the turn of the 7,832 pupils in the Northern Islands to start the new school year at the 17 state and state-funded private schools, the four lower secondary schools and the two upper secondary schools: 3,970 in primary education and 3,862 in secondary education. Depending on the school, the start of term is staggered and lessons will begin on 3 or 7 September, depending on the timetables issued.
Roche Gravée Secondary School, Moho
Pupils in Years 3 to 5 will be returning to school today with their parents: from 8.00 am to 10.00 am for Year 5, from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm for Year 4 and from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm for Year 3. Year 6 pupils, meanwhile, have an extra day’s holiday and will be welcomed on Wednesday from 8.00 am to 11.00 am. Their parents will be able to visit the school on this occasion. Lessons will begin on Thursday 3 September. A parents’ evening will be held before the All Saints’ Day holidays.
Soualiga Secondary School
Year 6 pupils will be the first to return to school this Tuesday, 1 September, from 8.00 am to 12.15 pm. They will not have lessons in the afternoon, nor on 2 September, which is set aside for welcoming Year 5 pupils (8.00 am to 10.00 am), followed by Year 4 pupils (9.00 am to 11.00 am) and finally Year 3 pupils (from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm). Lessons will begin for everyone on Thursday 3 September.
Mont des Accords Secondary School
As is the case every year, the start of term takes place at different times for the three class groups at each year group level. The groups, listed by the pupils’ names, are displayed at the school entrance. Year 6 pupils will be the first to start on 1 September, followed by Year 7 pupils on Wednesday and Year 8 pupils on Thursday. Year 9 pupils will not start until Friday 4 September.
Robert Weinum General Sixth Form College
Following the Year 1 and Year 13 pupils on Tuesday from 8.00 am, then the BTS students from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm, it will be the turn of the Year 10 pupils to start the new term on Wednesday 2 September from 8.00 am to 12.00 pm. For these pupils, parents are expected to attend the meeting organised by the school management after the pupils have started their lessons. This will be an opportunity to meet the new headteacher. Lessons will begin on Thursday 3rd for all year groups.
Daniella Jeffry Vocational School
There has also been a change of headteacher at the vocational school. Harry Dorville will now take on the role, alongside a new general secretary, Sandra Lissandre, who has recently moved to the area. The start of the term is staggered between 1 September (for the majority of pupils) and 2 September for BTS students. Lessons will begin on Thursday 3 September.
