An agreement on cooperation between the Territorial Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies of Saint Martin (ITSEE) and the Department of Statistics of Sint Maarten (STAT) was signed last March.
An initial meeting between the two parties confirmed their shared commitment to speeding up the cooperation process in order to produce clearer economic data.
For Alain Richardson, First President of the Collectivité and President of the ITSEE, the key aim of this cooperation is to consolidate data that has hitherto been fragmented, as it has been specific to each part of the island. Certain key sectors will therefore soon be able to be analysed as a whole, thereby better reflecting reality. Calculation methods will be harmonised, particularly to provide a true picture of the cost of living across the whole territory, and census data will be cross-referenced to enable an understanding of cross-border labour market dynamics, amongst other things.
An agreement is expected to be signed shortly to formalise this long-term partnership.
