Support for fishermen

The Collectivité of Saint-Martin and the Maritime Social Service have signed an agreement enabling the establishment of local social support centres for fishermen, seafarers and their families. This new scheme was presented last Friday by Territorial Councillor Valérie Fonrose, responsible for the blue economy, and Alissa Lerider, a social worker with the Maritime Social Service (SSM). The SSM carries out work in the areas of reception, information provision, social support and prevention for active seafarers, pensioners and employers covered by the seafarers’ social security scheme. Thus, across all coastal areas, including overseas territories, the SSM’s teams act as the primary point of contact for maritime communities. These drop-in centres help to ensure effective access to rights, streamline support pathways and strengthen the prevention of socio-occupational risks. The Collectivité has undertaken to make available the premises located in the annexe of the Attractiveness, Economy and Employment Delegation, on Rue Jean-Jacques Fayel in Concordia. For its part, the SSM will be responsible for welcoming members of the public and will provide an overview of the activities carried out across the territory of Saint Martin. The next drop-in sessions will take place on Friday 3 July and Friday 21 August. To book an appointment: Mirella.MERAUT@com-saint-martin.fr or +590 690 71 76 99, Monday to Friday from 8.00 am to 3.00 pm.
