LODEOM: a ministerial mission in the field
On the initiative of Senator Annick Pétrus, a senatorial mission will visit Saint Martin from 23 to 25 March to assess the social security contribution exemption measures applicable in overseas territories. This is a major issue for employment and competitiveness in the territory.
Conducted as part of the work of the Senate Social Affairs Committee, the social security assessment and control mission will analyse, in particular, the mechanisms provided for by the Law on the Economic Development of Overseas Territories (LODEOM), which regulates social security contribution relief schemes in overseas territories. While the government is considering adjustments that could lead to significant reductions in these exemptions, local economic actors fear a direct impact on activity and employment in Saint Martin. For the senator, this trip is an important step: "Legislating only makes sense if the law takes into account the realities and specificities of each territory. That is precisely the aim of this trip: to start from the ground up in order to inform public decision-making," she said in a statement. Annick Pétrus will take part in the work and accompany the senatorial delegation during the various working sessions planned in the territory.
