Employment and training: the Local Mission is taking action
On 11 June, the Saint-Martin Local Mission brought together employers, training organisations and support services in Marigot to offer the island’s young people a morning of career guidance and professional opportunities.
Thirty-two stands were present at the Employment and Training Fair, bringing together a wide range of organisations: France Travail, LADOM, the CCISM, the Compagnons Bâtisseurs, the Army, and many other public and private partners from the region. This level of participation demonstrates how firmly established this event has become in the local community, and the shared commitment to offering young people in Saint-Martin direct and straightforward access to the opportunities available on the island. For this is precisely the strength of this format: enabling every young person aged 16 to 25 to explore all the possibilities in a single morning, without having to go through multiple procedures. CV coaching, cover letters, personalised advice, face-to-face meetings with recruiters — the event covered all needs, from job hunting to discovering locally available training pathways, as well as guidance on engagement schemes such as those offered by the army or the RSMA. “I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do,” admits Tania, 19. “But now I’ve spoken to several people and I’ve got at least two or three avenues to explore. That’s already a lot. ” Open to everyone, whether or not they are already supported by the Mission Locale, the fair is part of the organisation’s core mission: to support young people in Saint-Martin towards social and professional integration. This mission is all the more essential in a region where young people under the age of 25 sometimes struggle with a lack of information about available training and career opportunities. Funded by the Prefecture, the Collectivité de Saint-Martin and the European Union, the Employment and Training Fair has established itself as an unmissable event on the local calendar.
