An artist, a perspective: Jocselyn Mora
Based in Saint Martin since January 2025, Jocselyn Mora photographs the island’s everyday life. Originally from Costa Rica, she has turned her passion into her profession and likes to think that what may seem ordinary today will become part of tomorrow’s history.
Creating memories: that is how Jocselyn Mora sees photography. “I try to capture moments,” explains the professional, before adding, “As a child, I had very few photos; I could count them on the fingers of one hand.” At the age of 15, armed with her first camera, she began to capture the world around her. “For me, it was a way of creating the memories I was missing,” says the photographer. Initially a radio presenter, Jocselyn then turned to film: “My experience in the audiovisual sector helped me to better understand composition, storytelling and the intention behind each image. I then undertook further studies that allowed me to hone my skills and acquire technical knowledge in this field.”
Capturing the moment
Animals, nature, food, crowds, people—now a professional photographer, Jocselyn is interested in everything. In Saint Martin, at concerts, parties or even during the carnival, she loves to capture the moment. “I’m inspired by everyday life. Those simple moments that often go unnoticed. Every image represents a pause in time, something that may seem trivial today but will hold emotional value in the future,” enthuses the young Costa Rican. As her style takes shape, Saint-Martin fuels her creativity. “Some landscapes are quite similar to those in Costa Rica. However, every day I discover different things—cultures, clothing. I particularly appreciate the island’s cosmopolitan atmosphere,” says the artist.

Always on the lookout for new inspiration, Jocselyn took part in the exhibition held at Ti Korner in April. “Beyond seeing my photos hanging on a wall, I felt that a part of my story was there too. It reminded me why I love what I do so much,” confides the photographer. It was a great way for her to make a name for herself and showcase her work to the people of Saint Martin. Almost moved to tears, she recalls the shot that made her fall in love with photography: “It was a hummingbird. A fleeting moment, which reminds me that this art isn’t always about preparation, but rather about patience and trust in the right moment that will come,” she smiles. Jocselyn now shares her work on her website www.jocsyfotos.com and hopes to continue developing, never ceasing to tell stories through her images.
