Amazones: a club for healthy ageing
To round off this ‘Blue Week’ dedicated to older people, and in particular to intergenerational links, here is an initiative that will enable us to continue this work throughout the year: ANIS Saint-Martin is launching ‘Amazones’, a club dedicated to ageing well together. The programme includes physical activities, nutrition, social connection and digital inclusion. And it’s free for older people!
AMAZONES grew out of the ‘Connecting Our Seniors’ digital workshops organised in 2025 by ANIS Saint-Martin (Association for Digital Technology and Social Innovation). Around ten older people gained greater independence whilst rebuilding social ties. Following this experience, the participants expressed a desire to continue this momentum beyond the digital realm.
The need is very real: in Saint-Martin, 27 per cent of people aged 80 and over live alone in their own homes, whilst the provision of services aimed at preventing social isolation and maintaining social connections for older people remains limited.
The association is therefore offering a programme – inspired by the ‘blue zones’, areas renowned for the longevity of their inhabitants and the importance placed on daily activity, social relationships, passing on traditions and a sense of belonging.
Supported by the CGRR Agirc-Arrco, the scheme is based on five key areas: adapted physical activity and exploring natural spaces; local and preventative nutrition; relaxation, memory and mental wellbeing; outings, shared meals and intergenerational meetings; and support with digital skills and online procedures.
One or two sessions per week will be offered until July 2027, led by specialist professionals. Older people will also be involved in developing and evaluating the programme, in order to recognise their knowledge, experience and role in community life.
Ultimately, ANIS Saint-Martin aims to bring together families, organisations, professionals, institutions and local partners around the project, with the aim of making it a sustainable and replicable initiative so that our older people can gain greater independence and a better quality of life.
