The centre started after Ms. Richardson gathered some of the disabled persons in the community and as a kindly gesture took them on outings. In 1984 funding for a new building in the South Reward District was found. Over the years other leaders and kind persons offered their time enabling the group to grow. These disabled persons were trained in various skills like reading, writing, how to conduct themselves in society and self-help skills.
The goal of the center is the same since inception - to improve the skills and social development of persons with disability. Their main objective is to have equal opportunity for persons with disabilities in all areas of life. The result has seen much progress over the years.
Today the original group has grown enormously.
There is a day care center built to encompass specific needs of the clients. Some of the clients are champions in track and field and participate in Special Olympics.
