The new channel in the Grand-Cul-de-Sac lagoon is now open to traffic
This is good news for boaters, who will now be able to use it safely following a longer-than-expected delay caused by difficulties encountered by the company carrying out the sand dredging operations. Illuminated buoys have been installed in accordance with marking standards, and a buoy fitted with a handrail has even been placed so that swimmers wishing to take a break there are not swept away by the current in this area. At the same time, 25 abandoned and unauthorised moorings have been removed. Finally, a radar camera has been installed at the channel entrance to measure the speed of passing boats and thus prevent accidents.
5th edition of the artists’ fair
From 5 September until 17 October, this unmissable event for Saint Barthélemy’s artists is taking place at the Wall House Territorial Museum in Gustavia. Every year, it brings together painters, sculptors, photographers and illustrators, both amateur and professional. With no set theme, all the island’s artists are free to choose which works to exhibit, much to the delight of visitors, who can vote to select the works that will receive awards at the end of the exhibition. The 2026 edition features 40 exhibiting artists.
Opening hours: Tuesdays from 2 pm to 7 pm; Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 am to 12 noon and from 2 pm to 7 pm.
Julie Labrit and Sophie Jeanjean, French beach tennis champions
They secured the one and only gold medal won by the delegation from the Guadeloupe, Saint Martin and Saint Barth League (women’s over-45s category) at the competition held at the end of August in Saint-Georges-de-Didonne. Two bronze medals were also won by Laura-Rose Kurschat and Charlotte Martinez (in the under-18 girls’ category) and by Yohann Bervas and Gérard Petapermal (in the men’s over-45s category). It is worth noting that Julie Labrit had already won her first French championship title in 2012. This is a fine demonstration of perseverance, but also of the vitality of beach tennis in our region. KBT Karibbean Beach Tennis has every reason to be proud.
