Women took centre stage this weekend and, on the eve of International Women’s Day, Anke Roosens, head of the SNSM in Saint-Martin, was rightly awarded the Medal of the Order of Maritime Merit in the rank of Knight.
A qualified captain, Anke Roosens has spent over fourteen years at the SNSM ensuring the readiness of maritime resources and the preparedness of crews, and has led 84 sea missions, 75 of which resulted in rescues. But she is also at the heart of training programmes and is constantly striving to raise awareness of the SNSM among the general public. This medal, awarded by the Minister of State for the Sea and Fisheries, recognises the career of a committed, determined and inspiring woman… who balances her professional life with her voluntary work. Her professionalism and dedication to sea rescue make her a true leader!
