Sandy Ground Celebrates

12 August 2026

For the past forty years, on the Feast of the Assumption, 15 August, Sandy Ground has been celebrating its patron saint’s day. ‬Over the years‭, ‬the religious aspect has become intertwined with a celebration that truly reflects the neighbourhood’s identity‭, ‬and it has become an unmissable event in local life‭.‬

Local political figures, including the President of the Collectivity of Saint Martin, Louis Mussington, will begin the day by attending the religious service at 10.00 am at the Apostolic Faith Church in Sandy Ground, before gathering at 11.30 am under the marquee erected at the Albéric Richards Stadium for their traditional official speeches.  These speeches are always eagerly anticipated and regularly provide an opportunity to announce new projects or to take stock of decisions taken in the neighbourhood’s best interests. The festival has also become a time when Sandy Ground talks about Sandy Ground, as it is one of the neighbourhoods where expectations remain high, whether in terms of infrastructure, security, housing… and so on. But the village celebration is, above all, intended to be a community festival. The programme of festivities will therefore continue throughout the afternoon and into the evening with a wide range of entertainment and musical performances.
