National Sea Rescue Days

To mark the 10th edition of the National Sea Rescue Days, the Saint-Martin SNSM station engaged with the public on 28 June at Baie Orientale beach to inform, ‬raise awareness and demonstrate the kinds of situations lifeguards may face‭.‬

Around twenty SNSM volunteers were on hand last Sunday to chat with the public on Waï Beach, to sell merchandise bearing the station’s logo – the proceeds of which help to fund some of its operations – but above all to raise awareness of safety at sea through fun activities. These activities were well received by the public, who were particularly engrossed by the full-scale demonstration of a rescue in conditions that were almost real-life. A scenario involving a boat on fire and seriously injured people had been staged. Those present were able to follow the rescue of the boat by the SNSM patrol boat, the evacuation of the injured and the first aid administered, either directly on the beach or on a large screen inside the restaurant, thanks to footage captured by a drone. Young and old alike were thus able to discover life-saving techniques and learn how to alert the emergency services.
