Ça Roule Bike Shop: a new direction for cycling in Saint Martin

In Marigot, entrepreneur Dean Junior Hodge opened Ça Roule Bike Shop on 9 March. A new shop dedicated to the sale and repair of bicycles on the French side.

Mountain bikes, hybrid bikes, road bikes or electric bikes – Ça Roule Bike Shop is establishing itself as the new Aladdin’s cave for cyclists. Whilst the French part of the territory had been without a bike shop for several months, that has now changed.

The owner? Dean Junior Hodge, a Saint-Martinese who has been passionate about cycling since he was a child. An entrepreneur, repairman, but above all a cyclist, this isn’t his first time around the track. A competitor in mountain biking and road cycling, he has competed in championships for several years in Saint-Martin, Martinique, Guadeloupe and also in the United States. “At first, I used to cycle with my uncles. Then they encouraged me to compete. One of them taught me how to repair my bikes and another helped me with my training,” explains the professional.
Although the cyclist now admits he only gets back in the saddle for leisure, he has decided to turn his passion into his profession. “I worked for nearly 10 years at Tri-Sport on the Dutch side and then on the French side. I then had the opportunity to open my own shop.” As the sole employee in his shop, Dean can count on the support of his family and hopes to soon be able to recruit a mechanic to expand his team.

All in the saddle

In his shop, the manager offers a wide selection of bikes. “I wanted to stock entry-level models, including children’s bikes for €350, as well as high-end models costing up to €15,000.” Whether pedal-powered
or electric bikes, helmets, accessories or spare parts, everything is designed to meet cyclists’ needs. Among the brands sold are Giant, Liv, Cube, Look and BMC – suppliers the owner knows well and is used to working with.
Far from limiting itself to sales, Ça Roule Bike Shop also has a repair workshop. “It was important to me to offer an after-sales service. This can range from changing an inner tube to a full service. We also repair bikes from brands we don’t sell and can order parts if needed,” explains Dean. An essential service in an environment where salt and sand accelerate wear and tear on equipment.
With Ça Roule Bike Shop, Dean hopes to firmly establish cycling in the local landscape. While the start has been promising, he intends to continue the adventure without ever letting go of the handlebars.
To discover the shop and the services offered by Ça Roule Bike Shop, head to 102 Rue de Hollande in Marigot. Dean welcomes you from 10am to 5pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and from 9am to 1pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
