On Friday 10 and Saturday 11 April, the Marigot Association of Shopkeepers and Restaurateurs (AEC) organised its Grand Street Market. Closed to traffic for the occasion, Rue Général de Gaulle welcomed many visitors.
First launched in 1999, the event attracted 94 participants this year. “This latest edition was a real success,” emphasises Yann Lecam, president of the AEC, before adding, “There were young designers and new exhibitors who were delighted. The traders, who have been established for several years now, are less satisfied, however; there is a noticeable lack of spending power among visitors.” Over the years, the Grande Braderie has become an event where all generations come together. “While not all visitors were there to hunt for bargains, many came with their families. The town centre was buzzing.” A success for the Marigot Association of Shopkeepers and Restaurateurs, which has been organising two street markets a year since 2015.
