SXM Drag Race 2026: safety first
The region’s top riders will be competing in the SXM Drag Race on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 May. The event, organised by the Association Moto Action du Nord (A.M.A.N), places the utmost emphasis on safety.
On Saturday from 1pm to 5pm, participants will undergo technical and administrative checks and complete a few warm-up laps to test their machines and make final adjustments… offering the public a first glimpse of the spectacle. The official competition will get underway on Sunday at 7 am. Local riders, hailing from Saint-Eustache, Guadeloupe, Sint Maarten and, of course, Saint Martin, will compete in head-to-head duels during official, supervised runs in the Pro Stock, Street Bikes, Scooter, Tmax and Quad categories. As a new addition, car demonstrations will round off the action on the track. To be allowed on the track, riders must hold a licence from the French Motorcycling Federation, have a valid medical fitness certificate and, above all, wear the required equipment: full-face helmet, leather motorcycle gloves, motorcycle shoes or boots, protective suit (one-piece or two-piece with zip fastening) and an approved back protector. No exceptions will be made regarding safety, as the whole point of the event is to raise awareness of safety rules. To this end, a road safety village will be open to the public and participants throughout Sunday. Several interactive and educational workshops, led by road safety professionals, will be organised: a driving simulator for two-wheelers, to test reflexes and understand the risks of the road, and workshops simulating impaired driving (using special glasses that simulate driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs).
Please note that the section of the RN7 between the Hope Estate roundabout and the entrance to Grand Case will be closed on Saturday from 1.45 pm to 4 pm and on Sunday from 5.30 am to 4 pm in accordance with the regulations in force. A diversion will be in place through the centre of Grand Case, via Route de l’Espérance, and from Marigot via Rue Shanty Town. Parking will be permitted exclusively in the Hope Estate area. The organisers ask road users to behave responsibly and to follow the instructions of volunteers and law enforcement officers. The use of drones will be strictly prohibited throughout the event site for obvious reasons of aviation and public safety. A large crowd is expected to turn out, in a responsible manner, to celebrate motor sport!
