Sporty Challenge: sport for all
This September is definitely all about sport. National initiatives are being rolled out across the territory one after the other. It is now the turn of the Centre for Excellence and Education through Sport (CEES) to launch its event, with the first edition of the Sporty Challenge Saint-Martin as part of European Week of Sport.
Held every year from 23 to 30 September, European Sports Week – organised by the European Commission as part of the #BeActive campaign – encourages everyone to take part in physical and sporting activities, whatever their age, background or level of ability.
The CEES is stepping outside its comfort zone and its original remit – namely supporting young athletes – to launch an event that promotes the joy of taking part, pushing oneself to the limit, team spirit, camaraderie and sharing.
Four routes at Le Galion
The Sporty Challenge will take place on Sunday 27 September at the Galion site. Four routes will be on offer, tailored to participants’ fitness levels.
The ‘Challenge’ route is designed for adults and teenagers who are physically fit and regularly take part in sporting activities. This event will be the only one to be timed, with a ranking and prizes for the top four finishers in both the men’s and women’s categories.
The ‘Excellence’ course, reserved exclusively for adults, is a sporting challenge accessible to all ability levels, with no pressure as there will be no rankings, only prizes.
The ‘Evolution’ course, tailored to the age and ability of the participants, is for 12–18-year-olds. Finally, in a family-friendly and convivial spirit, the ‘Spirit’ course will be completed in pairs: one parent and one child aged 6 to 12.
200 participants are expected to take part in these events, with the start times following the order of the courses as announced, at 7.00 am, 8.00 am, 8.00 am and 10.00 am respectively. Prizes will be awarded at 11.45 am in the Sports Village set up for the occasion, as will the prizes won in the social media competition.
