The students from the Fly Dance SXM association shone at the Martinique Aerial Dance Challenge on 16 May. Their teacher, Elena Smal, who teaches pole dancing, hoop, hammock and aerial silks, is delighted with their success.
Six participants, seven performances and six awards. In aerial hammock and hoop, the students from the Fly Dance SXM association won four gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal. “These awards are well deserved,” says the association’s president, Elena Smal, better known as Alyona, before adding, “we competed against young people from Guadeloupe and Martinique and our students were the strongest.” Back in March, the Saint-Martinians had already made a name for themselves at the regional pole dance competitions in Guadeloupe, where they won a bronze and a silver medal. Although they have not been selected this year for the national pole art competitions in France, the young athletes are hoping to qualify for the world championships. This would be their first opportunity to represent Saint Martin in an international aerial sports competition.
