Last February, Lukas Outil swam the full circuit of Saint-Barthélemy, a distance of 21 km.

The lifeguard had since set himself a new challenge: to swim the 25 km or so separating Saint-Barthélemy from Saint-Martin. Originally scheduled for 16 August, the crossing had to be postponed due to rough seas. It finally took place on Sunday 23 August, setting off at 5 am from Colombier beach, at the north-western tip of Saint Barthélemy. Lukas Outil was originally due to reach Boardwalk Beach in Philipsburg, but following several complications with the Dutch immigration authorities, the finish was eventually moved to the French side, at Oyster Pond. The swimmer had prepared to spend around 7.5 hours in the water. He ultimately completed the crossing in just over six hours, successfully overcoming his latest challenge.
