Cycling: Two medals for the Marigot Sports Association
Three riders from the Marigot Sports Association (ASM) – Alfred Artsen, Junisio Brooks Lake and Lance Hunt Parotte, competing in the U17 category – took part in the Guadeloupe Cycling Tour from 8 to 12 July. After five stages and 351.4 km, the cyclists brought home two gold medals. Lance Hunt Parotte won the fourth stage – considered the most difficult – which finished at the summit of a 4 km climb in Baillif. He also wore the white jersey as best young rider during the second stage, and then the green jersey as leader of the points classification during the fifth stage. He finished second in the overall mountains classification and fourth in the overall points classification.
Alfred Artsen, meanwhile, won the final stage following a particularly impressive performance. He broke away from the peloton to catch up with the race leader, who had a lead of 1 minute 20 seconds, and emerged victorious in the final sprint. He finished sixth in the general classification. Finally, Junisio Brooks Lake showed consistency throughout the Tour and was a “key element in the team’s cohesion”, emphasised club president Steve Galvani.
