The court upheld the prosecution’s submission and yesterday delivered its verdict in the case heard at Marigot Magistrates’ Court on 10 September.
A brief recap of the facts: on 13 July 2024, three individuals attacked several gendarmes near the Géminga shipyard (see our edition of 15 September 2026). The gang leader, the main suspect identified and well known to the police, had fired several shots at the police. He is currently in prison in Guadeloupe and did not wish to appear before the judge via video link. In addition to these 18 months’ imprisonment, he must pay €2,500 to each of the seven gendarmes as compensation for the emotional distress they suffered during this high-risk operation.
