Saved from the flames at the very last moment
During the night of 14 to 15 October, at 00:23, the fire brigade was alerted by several local residents to a major fire in a residential property, in the Savane neighbourhood. By the time the first emergency services arrived, a large part of the property was already engulfed in flames.
Two people, who had been affected by the smoke, sought medical assistance, whilst a third person was reported missing. Despite the fire having spread significantly, the fire brigade immediately launched a search and rescue operation inside the building. Their efforts enabled them to locate and rescue a man, who was evacuated from the first floor of the property. The victim, who was unconscious when he was attended to following his evacuation, was treated by a SAMU team at the scene.
In total, three victims were treated and taken to the Louis-Constant Fleming Hospital.
The operation involved 11 firefighters, with a fire engine, an all-terrain water tanker, two ambulances and a command vehicle, in coordination with the National Gendarmerie and the SAMU. Fire-fighting operations were completed at around 6 am.
STIS 978 would like to commend the professionalism, responsiveness and commitment of the firefighters who were called out last night. They carried out their work under difficult conditions.
