Grand Case: the village festival

Following Marigot on 14 July, it is now Grand-Case’s turn to celebrate. As on every 21 July, Saint Victor’s Day, the memory of Victor Schœlcher, the architect of the abolition of slavery in 1848, will be commemorated. This is another opportunity to step back in time and, once again, to draw a link between history and the present. On the programme for this year’s festivities, in addition to the ecumenical service held at 9 am at the Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, there will be a slight departure from the usual programme with the inauguration of the Neighbourhood Council No. 2 office on Rue des Écoles. The festivities will resume at 10.15 am with the traditional parade of folk groups and others along Boulevard Bertin-Maurice. The official ceremony, featuring the customary speeches in the presence of representatives from the Collectivité, the State and civil society, will bring the morning to a close. The celebrations will continue with entertainment throughout the afternoon and into the evening.
