Martin Parr, a British photographer regarded as one of the masters of documentary photography, has painted a striking portrait of the imbalances in our world and our lifestyles. The excesses and ravages of mass tourism, the dominance of the car, technological dependencies, consumerist frenzy, junk food… his photos, seemingly imbued with a sense of lightness, are in fact our reality – that of a world in decline. He highlights the grotesque in the mundane and, through his images, offers a satire of contemporary life with all its excesses.
Drawing on these observations and the photographer’s work, students from the Daniella Jeffry vocational school present an original and modern reflection on their island. Their exhibition will be held on Wednesday 1 April from 5pm to 7pm in the lobby of the Collectivité de Saint-Martin (rue de la mairie in Marigot) and will be open to the public free of charge until 24 April.
