There were only seven volunteers on Galisbay beach last Sunday for Clean Saint-Martin’s monthly beach clean-up. That’s far too few, given the sheer volume of rubbish to be collected!
Unfortunately, they collected far too many cigarette ends, bottle caps, soft drink cans and all sorts of other rubbish – including… an old inflatable dinghy! Taking action also means showing more respect by not littering beaches or the countryside with all sorts of rubbish. Every little helps, and it’s time for attitudes to change and for this anti-social behaviour to stop. So thank you to these seven people who gave up their Sunday to clean up a beach yet again.
As always at the end of each clean-up, the recyclable waste was sorted once the collection was complete. Plastics and glass were placed in the bins provided for this purpose.
The next event is scheduled for Sunday 6 September (the location will be announced later), which gives us time to rally support, swell the ranks and help keep the island clean!
