Two authors, two different journeys, but the same island as their common thread. Through their books, Sabrina Constance Placidoux and Mary-Laure Teyssedre each explore, in their own way, the paths of inner transformation, navigating personal trials and the rediscovery of freedom.

Sabrina Constance Placidoux: turning adversity into strength

Following the release of her first book in January 2026, Sabrina Constance Placidoux returns with a brand-new introspective book entitled *Quand elle s’est choisie, la vie a suivi* (When she chose herself, life followed). A story in which life’s difficulties become catalysts for personal transformation. At 47, Sabrina Constance Placidoux founded her own publishing house, Rédac’solutions, and is planning the release of a literary series. Originally from Guadeloupe and having lived in Saint Martin for 26 years, the author has faced a succession of challenges in recent years that have led her to change her outlook on life. “Instead of focusing on what’s going wrong, I try to understand what each situation has to offer me,” says the author, who had no prior inclination towards writing. An engineer specialising in urban planning, she now shares in her books an approach to life where every trial becomes a key to moving forward. Spanning 74 pages, her latest book explores the theme of detachment. Originally intended for her children, it is designed to be accessible to all, using “simple words to discuss philosophical concepts”. Without ever imposing a method, the author invites readers to adopt a new perspective on the wounds life inflicts, enabling them to navigate these challenges with greater serenity. “It worked for me, so it might resonate with others,” she says. This first volume marks the launch of a five-part series entitled “La femme lionne”.

Mary-Laure Teyssedre: Saint Martin as a muse

Author of 12 books that have sold over 150,000 copies, Mary-Laure Teyssedre lived in Saint-Martin for nearly 10 years. An island that has profoundly shaped her personal and creative journey. The island she now considers her favourite, Saint-Martin, is the setting for her novel 27 Reflets. In this immersive tale, the reader follows the character of Élisa, a young woman whose life is turned upside down in 27 days. Set against the backdrop of Caribbean sunshine and the hushed atmosphere of a casino, the novel explores the notions of transformation, freedom and inner abundance. Saint Martin emerges as a presence in its own right, with its contrasts and unique energy. This standalone novel has received the support of Amélie Nothomb, who described it as “absolutely brilliant” and whose words “I loved it” appear on the cover. To mark the Paris Fair on 6, 7 and 8 May at the Porte de Versailles, the Saint Martin Chamber of Commerce and Industry has invited the author to the island’s official stand to meet visitors and sign copies of her book.
