The SMaatin National Cultural Parade

The SMNCP Foundation, in collaboration with the Saint-Martin Traditions and Culture Festival, is organising its cultural parade, which this year has the theme ‘Smaatn united!’. A wonderful message and, above all, an opportunity to delve into Saint-Martin’s history through costumes, music and more… The parade will wind its way through Rue de Hollande, Rue de la République, Rue de la Liberté, Rue du Président Kennedy and Low Town to the Bellevue roundabout, before returning via Rue de Hollande to the cultural village, which will be set up at the Jean-Louis Vanterpool Stadium in Concordia.
Sunday 8 November, at 10.00 am, starting from the Agrément roundabout: click here

Drive-through car boot sale

Only 75 stalls for sellers – not a single one more – but just as many chances to rummage through this huge car boot sale, which has the unique feature of taking place straight from the boot of your car. Stall spaces cost €20 (including a €5 membership fee for the charity), but entry is free for visitors. A raffle (€5 per ticket) with plenty of prizes to be won will be held to raise funds for the Eco Supreme – Garage Solidaire association, the event’s organiser.
Sunday 8 November, from 7am to 4pm, at Sandy’s Orange (opposite the school complex): click here

It’s swinging in Marigot

The 4th edition of the ‘St Martin Jazz Festival’ will take place on 8 November, headlined by Winston Maccow, accompanied by some of the finest jazz musicians currently on the music scene. Of course, Paul Emmanuel will be on bass and his son Ali on saxophone, alongside a host of musicians including Andrew Dorsett, Evan Amatojais, Stéphane Apianai, Anthony Steele, Carlyle Barriteau and his band (Chaka Khan’s official musicians). Joining them will be singers Tyra and Illismo. A concert not to be missed, especially as it’s free.
Sunday 8 November, from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm, on the Marigot seafront.

Breaking the silence through art

Art is often a very good remedy. In this particular case, it is being used to address the issue of addiction. This competition, organised by SIE in partnership with the St Martin Demain association, is open to all young people aged between 16 and 25. Its aim is to help them express themselves through slam poetry, drawing or photography… all forms of creative expression are welcome.
Entries are open until 14 November.

Vocal competition

Oualichi Rise is a new artistic initiative, but above all it is a story of women, of passing on traditions and of voices. Together with FANM SXM, it is launching its first collective musical creation and simply needs the island’s finest voices to bring this project to fruition. Whether you’re a woman or a man, whether you’re taking part solo or in a choir, whether you sing in French, English, Spanish or Creole, you can give it a go! Simply register to receive details on how to listen to the demo and the instructions to follow before submitting your audition video: an introduction and a singing excerpt, lasting no more than one minute and thirty seconds (https://tally.so/r/pexqo1).
Entries are open until 28 November.
