Saint-Martin in the style of Martin Parr
Under the guidance of their teachers, the sixth-formers studied the work of this photographer, known for his critical view of contemporary society.
“We set up this project to give meaning to the applied arts exam for final-year students on the vocational baccalaureate in catering. Each student had to compile a dossier on Martin Parr, including photographic analyses. They also took one or more photos inspired by the artist’s work,” explains their teacher, Claude Célestine.
A leading figure in documentary photography, Martin Parr captures the world as it is in his works. Consumerism, mass tourism, the excesses of new technologies – these are all subjects the artist critiques through his photographs, and which resonate in Saint-Martin. “These photos depict society, and for my part I chose to photograph junk food,” says Anastasia, a final-year student at the vocational school.
Beyond being a school assignment, this project encourages reflection on the environment and current societal issues. The exhibition remains open to the public in the lobby of the Territorial Collectivity until 24 April.
