Image Makers: Over to the young people

The organisations ANIS Saint-Martin and ALEFPA have joined forces to give a voice and a visual platform to local young people through the national Passeurs d’Images scheme. Two previously unseen short films will be screened to the public this Friday.

With Saint-Martin having been without a cinema since Hurricane Irma, the “Passeurs d’Images” programme enables young people to reclaim the power of the image by stepping behind the camera. Led by the associations ANIS Saint-Martin and ALEFPA - le Manteau, the project brought together around fifteen young people for an intensive filmmaking workshop supervised by two professionals, Christophe Champaré and Rony Pies. Over three weeks, they learnt all the stages of filmmaking, from writing to editing.
In “My Life, My Neighbourhood”, a 25-minute documentary, five young people agreed to speak out about their lives, their surroundings and their dreams; an immersion into the daily lives of young people who, above all, have a deep love for their island and wanted to share it.
On a different note, in the realm of fiction, the young people from the Mission Locale devised an original screenplay which, whilst inspired by American TV series, incorporates distinctly Saint-Martinean elements. “Sxm Bad Boyz, An Ordinary Day”, a 10-minute short film, plunges the viewer into a fast-paced crime thriller.
Both films will be screened during a special evening event on Friday 17 April at 7 pm at the Jean-Louis Vanterpool Sports Hall in Marigot. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the participants and a social gathering. Admission is free and open to all.
