On Friday 10 April, the Ti Korner hosted an exhibition on the theme of ‘street photography’. This artistic initiative offers a refreshing change from the usual clichés of the island and provides a platform for local artists.

Far from the usual picture-postcard scenes, the fifty or so photographs on display at Ti Korner offer a raw, sometimes unsettling view of Saint Martin. A total of ten artists have exhibited their work. The event was
organised by Christian Masana, owner of the Photo Caraïbes shop. “Tonight, visitors can discover ten photographers and ten different styles,” explains the enthusiast. Whether in colour or black and white, the photographs offer a variety of perspectives on the ‘friendly island’.
From working-class neighbourhoods to the most affluent areas, amateur and professional photographers alike have taken care to capture every detail, every scene of daily life. Enough to reveal a reality a world away from the glossy, paradise-like beaches. “I love wandering the streets of different neighbourhoods and taking photos without any specific aim. I love the freedom that ‘street photography’ offers,” says one of the exhibiting photographers, Thomas Proust. With 20 copies of each print available, the works are on sale for between €34 and €219 and will continue to be on display at Ti Korner for several weeks. This new exhibition, which attracted many enthusiasts, aimed to showcase the many facets of Saint Martin’s culture.
