The Migratory Birds Festival will take place this Saturday, 10 October, from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm at the Amuseum Naturalis in The Old House (on the road to Quartier d’Orléans). Visitors will be able to play at being detectives to spot the birds, take part in bird bingo or a treasure hunt exploring their habitats, and of course explore the museum’s exhibitions. These activities have been tailored to showcase Caribbean birds and the local natural environment. This year, there will also be a craft station for children and adults, where they can decorate a wooden box with a migratory bird theme. Everyone will be invited to place a selection of seeds from native trees inside their boxes to plant at home… an essential way to ensure that birds, whether migratory or resident, can find food and shelter.
Continuing with the bird theme, the charity Les Fruits de Mer will be presenting a new colouring book. ‘Zones Humides Autour de Moi’ will be distributed free of charge during the event whilst stocks last! Like the other books in the ‘Autour de Moi’ series, this one is also bilingual (English and French), and serves as a nature journal in which children can record their own observations and draw their own pictures of the plants and animals that live on this island.
